Since it snagged LucasFilm for $4.05 billion in 2012, Disney’s churned out Star Wars movies, shows, toys, VR experiences and games. But in the background it’s been tinkering away on something even more immersive: a full-blown Star Wars theme park. On Christmas Day, Disney dropped a new trailer for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park and two of its main attractions, “Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run” and “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” — with Disney describing the latter as “the biggest and most immersive Disney Parks attraction ever.”
After the long wait, fans are now counting the days until its grand opening in June and it sure as hell will be worth the wait.
Unlike most theme park rides that require guests to queue for hours just to get that very short time of thrill, the ride called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is rumored to be a 28-minute journey that will immerse guests into the story and thrust them into the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.Scott Trowbridge, Creative Executive of Disney Imagineering, calls the ride “the most epic attraction we’ve ever built” in the Disney Parks teaser video.
Unfortunately, the exact opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is still up in the air, though we know it’s coming in June. While we may be waiting around for a while still, it looks like it will well be worth it.
